Pendatang roughly translates as ‘outsider’ or ‘newcomer’ in Bahasa Malaysia, the national language of Malaysia. In political rhetoric, ‘pendatang’ is sometimes used pejoratively to apply to non-Malay, non-indigenous Malaysians whether they were born in Malaysia or not, and to their children.
